The difference between emulsified asphalt and cold base oil

The properties of the two materials are basically the same, both have asphalt components, and both have air-bonding effects.

Cold base oil is the earliest use of diesel oil and asphalt to dilute and paint to play a binding role. Emulsified asphalt is a modified alternative product with good quality and high bonding strength. Substitution is possible, but the quality is not as good as the latter. From the analysis of project cost, the former is cheaper.

Emulsified asphalt is a road asphalt that is usually used at high temperature, after being mechanically stirred and chemically stabilized (emulsification), diffused into water and liquefied into a road construction material with low viscosity and good fluidity at room temperature. It can be used at room temperature and can be used with cold and wet stones. When the emulsified bitumen is demulsified and solidified - it is reduced to continuous bitumen and the moisture is completely removed, the final strength of the road material can be formed. In many road construction applications, emulsified asphalt provides a safer, energy-saving and environmentally friendly system than hot asphalt because this process avoids high temperature operation, heating and harmful emissions.


Emulsified asphalt is mainly used for road upgrade and maintenance, such as stone chip seal, and there are a variety of unique and irreplaceable applications of other asphalt materials, such as cold mix and slurry seal. Emulsified asphalt can also be used for new road construction, such as sticky layer oil, permeable layer oil, etc.

Cold base oil is a product of bitumen diluted with diluents (gasoline, diesel, kerosene, benzene, etc.). It is mostly used for the bottom layer of waterproof engineering at room temperature, so it is called cold base oil.

Cold base oil has low viscosity and good fluidity. Brushing on the base surface of concrete, mortar or wood can quickly penetrate into the pores of the base layer. After the solvent evaporates, it will be firmly bonded to the base surface. The coating film formed by cold base oil is relatively thin, and is generally not used as a waterproof material alone, but only as a supporting material for some waterproof materials. During construction, apply a cold base oil on the base layer first, and then apply asphalt waterproof coating or linoleum. The cold base oil can seal the capillary pores of the base layer and use the base layer to form a waterproof capacity; make the surface of the base layer hydrophobic, creating favorable conditions for bonding similar waterproof materials.
